THE GAZETTE, mai 2011 - Bill Zacharkiw

Château la Tour de l'Evêque Pétale de Rose 2010

"A touch darker it seems than last year and with that extra tone of light pink comes some punchier fruit. Absolutely juicy and while it may not have quite the same finesse, it more than makes up for it in flavour. For years my favourite, and for my first rosé of the summer, an excellent start."

Château la Tour de l'Evêque Rouge 2006

"It's rare to find an inexpensive wine that will age beautiffuly yet is so accessible right now. Régine Sumeire's wines do just that. Predominantly syrah with a touch of cabernet sauvignon, this is a wonderful expression of Provence. Notes of fig and cassis, supple tannins, yet so tight and focused. This is the definition of balance. In an age of jacked-up wines that often taste of nowhere, this will make you travel."

VINTAGES, mai 2010

Château la Tour de l'Evêque Rosé 2009

“This pretty Provence Rosé never disappoints, delivering the goods year after year. Look for aromas of strawberry, light cherry, fresh herbs and mineral. Fairly dry with a hint of residual sugar coming on in mid-palate to give the wine a touch more intensity. Its crisp and fruity finish is quite refreshing. Serve it with pan-fried freshwater fish and a summer salad."

THE NATIONAL POST, mai 2010 - Margaret Swaine

"Château la Tour de l'Evêque Rosé 2009 - Made from cinsault, grenache and other organically grown grape varietals hand-harvested in Côtes de Provence. This pale salmon-coloured rosé has a rounded, medium-bodied, ripe berry character with a hint of peppery spice. Softened by a suggestion of sweetness, its non etherless fresh and balanced style is a good match for summer fare such as maple syrup-glazed grilled salmon steaks."

Bill's - Top rosés for 2009 - Bill Zacharkiw

"My favourites : Côtes de Provence Rosé 2008, Pétale de Rose, France rosé. Best rosé available at the SAQ this summer. Any lighter in colour and it could be mistaken for a white wine. You shopuld try this even if it is just to prove to yourself that colour means absolutely nothing when talking flavour. There is something so fresh, so spicy, so finessed about this wine. It's as if the essence of the fruit has been captured : its floral perfume, its redberry flavour, its peppery spice - Drink now -2011 - Food pairing : apéritif, brandade and other flavour-ful fish dishes."

The Gazette, décembre 2008 - Bille Zacharkiw

What makes a great bottle of wine ?

" ...I opened one of the magnums I had in my cellar - a 1990 Château Barbeyrolles - a mourvedre-based Côtes de Provence...The wine had that characteristic "thin-ness" one so often finds in older wines. The aromatics were staggering - flowers, cherry blossoms, mushrooms. All that boisterous primary fruit and oak of a young wine had become kirsch and sweet earth, a beautiful counter-point to the truffle sauce. The tannins were there, but gave the wine just enough heft to stand up to the richness of the rib..."

The Wine of The Rhone valley and Provence - Robert M. Parker

“ The young, tan, very pretty Régine Sumeire runs the 31 acre vineyard of Château Barbeyrolles. Contact us with a great deal of commitment and passion. She certainly has one of the best situated estates, located on a hilly terrain within view of one of the Riviera’s legendary spots, the fishing village and hangout for artists and high society, St Tropez. Her rose is of a very high standard, very freshand lively, but she also makes a serious red wine from Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. It is aged 15-18 months in both foudre and barrel, and has five to seven years aging potential in top years such as 1983 and 1985. This is a good estate with high standards.”

The Gazette, avril 2005 -  Malcolm Anderson

"Year after year the rose that tops my list of favourites is the Pétale de Rose, Côtes de Provence, 2004 – and the latest vintage is on our shelves now. The reason I like it is that it is not a pale pink shadow of a red, but first and foremost an excellent wine. The wine has a red-currant-rhubarb nose with a touch of earthiness while on the palate, there is an abundance of rich red-berry fruit with an interesting touch of almond bitterness. One swallow does not a summer make but one rosé does, especially this one."

The Gazette, novembre 2004 - Malcolm Anderson

"The Château La Tour de l’Evêque (Pétale de Rose),Côtes de Provence 2003,  has aromatic appel-melon aromas and flavours and also the same flavours on the palate. The wine is made of the unusual combination of rolle and sémillion grapes. The wine is interesting enough to be a good aperitif as it gives the impression of being off dry but is in fact just neatly fruity. It is also recommended for fish, seafood and goat cheese."
